Ep. X – Escape From New York [1981]

escape from new york tweaked

Tonight, 2013, the Tweakers turn their eye on the 1981 prequel to Escape from L.A., (JOHN CARPENTER’S) ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, to argue over the nature of originality, habituation, and pragmatism — but mostly just waste the hours playing a game where a Tweaker tries to guess a movie that has starred an unnamed actor. Escape From New York was filmed on locations far from New York City; it stars Lee Van Cleef and Donald Sütherland. Introducing Harry Dean Stanton. And Isaac Hayes. With Adrienne Barbeau.

Ep. IX – Point Break [1991]

point break tweaked

Prepare for 100% Pure Adrenaline™ as your brahs catch Kathryn Bigelow’s 1991 genre mash-up, POINT BREAK, whilst discussing the specious geography of THELMA AND LOUISE, the make and model of the car from FARGO, whether women actually wear négligées, and their trepidation about the sequel to THE TRIP. Point Break was filmed on location in Australia; it stars Tom Sizemore, Anthony Kiedis, Ted McGinley’s dad, and an uncredited River Phoenix.

Recommended snack accompaniment: A solid breakfast — no caffeine, no sugar. And Corona.

snitch tweaked

Finishing this clusterfuck will be the Tweakhard’s greatest challenge yet, when Amsterdam and Roscoe are joined by freshman Tweaker DeShawn “Dick” Warlock to wonder what is happening in the 2013 The Rock movie, SNITCH. Discussions include racial harmony of bike gangs, tactical dressware, accurate representations of working class households, and ping ponging. SNITCH is a movie; it stars Barry Pepper, Omar K Williams, Shane, and, inexplicably, Susan Sarandon.

Editor’s note: This tweak sounds like hell.

Ep. VII – The Terminator [1984]

the terminator tweaked

The Tweakers occasionally look at James Cameron’s 1984 action B-movie, THE TERMINATOR, whilst working out high concept quandaries such as time travel paradoxes, fate vs. chance, cat feeding methodologies, good vs. evil, unwelcome gratuitous nudity, and agreeing on no uncertain terms that A Hitler was the worst. The Terminator was co-written by Kathryn Bigelow’s ex-husband; it stars Bill Paxton, Dick Miller, Lance Henriksen (Millennium) and Michael Bean.

Ep. VI – Blade Runner (Final Cut) [1982/2007]

blade runner tweaked

In this terribly recorded Tweak, the b’hoys reconsider Ridley Scott’s 1982 dystopian thriller, BLADE RUNNER, with tangents through: male physiques across the ages, claymation successes, and the optimal shape for a drinking glass. Blade Runner was co-written by the guy who later wrote ‘Soldier’; it stars William Sanderson, Brion Jones James, a young Sean Young, M Emmet Walsh, and the dude in the banner pic above.

Specifically, this Tweak is connected to the 2007 ‘Final Cut’ version of the film. Other versions of the film will not synch to this tweak, although they would still undoubtedly be enjoyable.

Recommended snack accompaniment: Johnnie Walker Black….and Noodles!

fargo tweaked

The Coen Brothers’ 1996 dark comedy, FARGO stands up to the hardest Tweak scrutiny; listen to your Tweakers muse on contextual dishware, gloryholes, and why ‘Saving Private Ryan’ wasn’t about someone who stayed home from the war due to nearsightedness. Image

In this Tweak, the b’hoys forever ruin one of their favorite films, Dario Argento’s 1977 supernatural slasher, SUSPIRIA; listen to them muse on werewolf gunslingers, maggot anecdotes, and Nazi fashion. Suspira was co-written by Daria Nicolodi and her husband; it stars Jessica Harper, Rudolf Schündler, Stefania Casini, Alida Valli, Joan Bennett, and the woman who says “Squawk, Squawk, Squawk.”
